Debut brakence Album - punk2
While the world has been self-quarantining in attempts to flatten the COVID-19 curve, there’s bee a lot of time to really enjoy all the great music that’s coming out. Unfortunately for other artists, I’ll likely be giving brakence and his debut album - punk2 - my undivided attention.
I’ve been a fan of the Columbus-based 18-year-old for a long time. In fact, this marks the sixth time I’ve published a blog and/or Instagram post about his music. The first time being on IG back in October 2018, followed by blog posts in February and August 2019, then another couple of Instagram posts this February highlighting the first two singles from the album - ‘rosier’ & ‘fuckboy.’ Needless to say, I’m quite obsessed and look forward to seeing his continued growth as an artist and evolving sound.
brakence gives me hope for continued innovation in the industry at a time when unique sounds seem harder and harder to come by. His production and songwriting style keeps you on your toes as he breaks down the barriers between hip hop, R&B, punk, and pop. It feels as though this album, with its sweet falsettos, unique bars, and angst-infused punk breakdowns, caters directly to all the different phases I’ve gone through that have made me so passionate about music; however, it’s evident the maturing artist is unapologetically himself and isn’t concerned what others think of him/his sound. This is why he’ll be someone to keep an eye on and likely be my most listened to artist this year.
