Feature: Your Smith
Minneapolis native Caroline Smith started to preform music under her given name at the age of 16 after learning guitar from her dad. Funny enough, she performed at Zorbaz, a Minnesota pizza joint founded 50 years ago (and venue my cousin (Jenna Graves has also performed at).
She later moved from Detroit Lakes, MN to Minneapolis to attend college at the University of Minnesota. It was shortly after that her solo career evolved to being in band - Caroline Smith and the Good Night Sleeps. The group released a handful of releases in the late 2000s until 2011, but she recently decided to shake things up again.
In 2016, she got discovered for her feature on Lizzo’s “Let ‘em Say,” joined Pulse Music Group, and moved to LA. Two years later, she released her debut EP - Bad Habit - on Neon Gold Records and was featured on “23” from rapper Rejjie Snow’s debut album.
Between the aforementioned company, a few recent official remixes (including one from Japanese Breakfast), and a few 2019 singles, you’ll definitely want to keep an eye on Your Smith. Check out a few of her releases to get a sense of her funk / R&B “Minneapolis Sound,” folk, & pop infused direction.
