Tunesday - TV Edition

It’s been crazy the past month and I don’t really have a new artist or album to feature this week, but I do have is a couple of TV show recommendations that both have to do with music.

The Get Down

A Netflix original series about the genesis of hip hop in the Bronx during the 1970s, which was produced by none other than Nas - who happens to be coming to Berkley with Lauryn Hill in a couple months.

The first season is only six episodes long, but has an interesting story with great disco and hip hop music. I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for another show to binge watch. I just finished last night and am now lost, so please share any other Netflix recommendations.

You can watch the trailer here.

Atlanta

An FX comedy created by Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, that takes place in modern day Atlanta, GA. The series follows a rapper who recently gained popularity and the struggles he encounters as a result of his increased exposure. The rapper’s cousin, played by Donald Glover, acts as his manager and is willing to do whatever it takes to get him to the top.
