Thankful for Tribe, Gambino and The Weeknd

It’s been a long week, but it’s all worth it for that three-day week next week for Thanksgiving. The holiday is a time to give thanks and all the great tunes coming out lately are definitely a reason to be thankful. Here a few highlights of new music from the past couple weeks:

New Tribe

Can you kick it? Yes you can. It’s crazy to think about, but the last time the collective of talented emcees released an album was 1998. I haven’t done too much investigating (yet), but I’m curious to learn if one of the reasons the group came back together was due to one of their own passing away earlier this year. Unfortunately, Phife Dawg was one of the many greats, along with David Bowie and Prince, we lost in 2016.

You can listen to Tribe’s new album, We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service, here.

New Gambino

Back in June I mentioned Childish Gambino launching an app announcing a three-day concert. Well that three-day concert happened this fall and with it, Gambino announced his next album – Awaken, My Love!

While it’s not due to be released until December 2, he’s been teasing us with a couple singles recently released off the album. To be honest, I was slightly confused after hearing the first one. It was nowhere near his usual sound. However, I’ve had the second one stuck in my head since last night and am more excited than ever for what’s yet to come. He veers away from rapping and his clever bars, shifting to a more funkadelic soulful sound. These songs also seem to be a bit more upbeat and positive compared to Because the Internet, which I welcome. Check out his new singles off the upcoming album below:

New Weeknd

The Weeknd has been killing it for a while, but boy is collaborating with Daft Punk sure to make him a star. A few months ago, he released his first collab with the French DJ duo, ‘Starboy.’ Then this week, he dropped two new singles from his upcoming album (also called Starboy). ‘Party Monster’ has yet to grow on me, but I’m a huge fan of the MJ-esque vibes on ‘I Feel it Coming.’ Listen to both tracks below:

Happy Thanksgiving and keep jammin'
