Quenched by French Kiwi Juice
Today, FKJ released his debut LP. For those unfamiliar with the artist, FKJ is actually an acronym for the name of his first album – French Kiwi Juice. A former cinema sound engineer, the French musician has been composing music since the age of 13 and recorded his first song when he was only 14 years old. What’s more impressive is that the dude is self-taught and isn’t limited to just one instrument. He plays and loops guitar, bass, saxophone and piano to produce a blend of jazz and soul infused hip hop and funk.
He previously released two EPs – Take Off (2014) and Time for a Change (2013) – but what makes French Kiwi Juice so exciting is that he sings on a few select tracks in addition to producing. He gave fans a glimpse of this by teasing the release of the LP with a music video for “Skyline,” which was unveiled last month.
To get sense of what he’s like live, check out his live improve recording at Red Bull Studios in Tokyo or live collaboration with Tom Misch (another one of my favorite artists right now). Or, if you’d prefer to revel his glory in person, you can catch him on his U.S. tour.
