Tunesday - Passion & War

Hi all,

Wanted to share some new songs from artists I’ve already mentioned – Lido and Sonny Moore (aka Skrillex).

Today, Lido released a three-song EP called PPII (aka Passion Project pt. 2) in follow-up to an EP he released in 2015 with his friend, Santell. The first EP – The Passion Project – was made because both Lido and Santell admired each other’s music and wanted to make a mini compilation of R&B songs they recorded just for fun. The second project hints at the previous iteration in the song, ‘Mariah/Say You Scared,’ in which Santell sings, “I used to sing Ashley, but now I’m more Mariah.” This a fun literal reference to the first track off The Passion Project, which was called ‘Ashley.’

You can listen to PPII here.

Last time I wrote about Sonny Moore, I mentioned that he used to be the lead singer for a band called From First to Last. Well a few months back, he included a song at the end of his BBC 1 Radio show that sounded a lot like him when he was with the band. He simply labeled it as ‘Untitled’ in show’s set list.

Fast forward a bit and three days ago, Skrill posted a photo on Instagram of him in the studio with Travis Barker (Blink 182), Mark Hoppus (Blink 182), John Feldy (Blink 182) and Matt Good (From First to Last). This began to raise a lot of rumors and questions. Then on January 15th – his birthday – he/From First to Last released an official recording of the same song previously featured in his BBC 1 set. The song, called ‘Make War,’ is definitely reminiscent of anyone who used to be a fan of FFTL. While most of you may not enjoy it (unless you like emo/screamo/post-hardcore), I haven’t been able to stop listening.

Check out the tune on Spotify here.

Keep jammin’
